DP World and SailGP have teamed up for a new global logistics partnership. This means that DP World will be in charge of moving and delivering everything needed for SailGP’s races around the world. SailGP is a global racing championship that takes place on five continents every year.
DP World is a huge company with 115,000 workers in 78 countries. They will use their worldwide network to take care of all the logistics, like shipping items by sea, organizing delivery services, and planning the best routes. They will also help with storage, trucking, and moving things by train and boat.
The company will have teams in each region to support the races. In addition, a special team based in the UAE will oversee everything 24/7, making sure things run smoothly. One important part of the partnership is DP World’s promise to help the environment. They will use ways to lower carbon emissions and keep track of the carbon used for each race.

Besides helping with regular race logistics, DP World will also move SailGP’s F50 catamarans, the special boats used in the races. These boats need to be taken apart carefully and packed into special containers for transport. Once they reach the race location, they will be put back together. Other things like team boats, broadcast equipment, and racecourse setups will also be moved to each location.
DP World is experienced in handling large sports events. In 2023, they helped move over 20 containers full of equipment to Rome for the Ryder Cup. They also played a big role in moving things for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States.
Daniel van Otterdijk, the Chief Communications Officer for DP World, said, “We’re excited to help SailGP by making their logistics more efficient and sustainable. This is a great opportunity to use our global network to support sports events.”
Andrew Thompson, Managing Director of SailGP, also shared his excitement: “We are happy to have DP World as our Global Smart Logistics Partner. SailGP is a very complex event, with lots of equipment needing to be moved all over the world. We need great partners like DP World to help us make this happen and bring the races to more fans.”
This partnership will last for three years, starting with the 2025 season. The first race will be the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend, November 23-24, 2024, in Mina Rashid, Dubai. DP World’s subsidiary, P&O Marinas, is the presenting partner for this event. A record 11 teams will race in the waters of Mina Rashid, marking an important moment for both SailGP and DP World.
