Cadillac set to join Formula 1 as the 11th team in the 2026 season

Cadillac will join Formula 1 as the 11th team in 2026. The final approval was given on Friday by F1 and its governing body, FIA. The team is backed by General Motors (GM) and TWG Motorsports. This decision comes after an agreement was made last year.

Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali said that GM’s entry into the sport is a big step forward. “As we said in November, General Motors bringing Cadillac to Formula 1 is a strong and positive move for the sport,” he said. He also thanked GM and TWG Motorsports for their hard work and welcomed them to the F1 grid.

A lot of work has already started for Cadillac’s entry. Reports say that around 300 people have been working on the project, waiting for final approval. Now that it is confirmed, TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss said they are ready to move faster.

“For the past year, we have worked closely with GM to build a strong base for our Formula 1 team,” Towriss said. “Now, with 2026 confirmed, we will speed up our work—expanding our team, improving new technology, and hiring top people.”

At first, Cadillac’s team will use Ferrari’s engines and gearboxes. But later, General Motors will start making its own engines. This will give them full control over their racing plans in the future.

With Cadillac joining, Formula 1 will have 11 teams racing for the first time in years. This is expected to bring more excitement to the sport, especially in the United States, where F1 has become very popular.
