Apple has introduced a new app called "Surveyor" that is designed to help improve the accuracy and detail of Apple Maps. This app collects real-world data about streets, traffic signs, signals, and other important road details, which helps keep Apple Maps up-to-date.
However, unlike most Apple apps that are available for everyone, Surveyor is not available to the public. Instead, it is meant for partner companies that have jobs related to mapping. When users download the app, they are asked to "Open Partner App," which then takes them to another app called Premise.
Premise is a third-party app where users can complete different tasks, such as taking surveys, reporting local updates like roadwork or construction, and even taking photos of specific locations. By completing these tasks, users can earn rewards.

According to some details found in the Surveyor app, once a task is assigned through Premise, users will be told to mount their iPhone in their car, turn it to landscape mode, and take pictures while driving along a set route. This process helps gather data about the roads and infrastructure, which is then sent to Apple. Apple uses this data to place objects accurately on Apple Maps.
This shows that Apple is using crowdsourced information to improve its maps and make sure the details, even small ones, are always correct. Even though Premise is not officially listed as an Apple Maps partner, the way the two apps work together suggests they are collaborating to keep Apple Maps updated.
With this new approach, Apple seems to be relying more on the community to help improve its map system. This move is similar to what Google Maps and Waze do with their own crowdsourced data. As Apple continues to improve Apple Maps, the Surveyor app could be an important part of their plan to make maps more accurate and detailed for users.
