Local officials in Odesa reported that a Russian drone attack overnight killed one person and injured 13 others in a residential area of the Ukrainian port city. The strike, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, caused significant damage to high-rise apartment buildings, private homes, and warehouses in the region. Odesa's regional governor, Oleh Kiper, confirmed the attack but did not provide details on whether the drone was intercepted by Ukrainian air defense systems.
In response to the escalating threat, Ukrainian forces successfully shot down 32 Russian drones over 10 regions of the country, with another 18 drones reportedly lost, likely due to electronic jamming. The attack on Odesa was part of Russia's continued aerial assault across Ukraine, which has intensified in recent months.
Meanwhile, in Kharkiv province, a Russian aerial bomb struck a busy highway overnight. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from this incident, but it highlights the ongoing vulnerability of civilian infrastructure in the war zones.

As these developments unfold, the EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, arrived in Kyiv on Saturday to reaffirm Europe's ongoing support for Ukraine. Borrell's visit comes at a crucial time as Ukrainian officials continue to request more assistance from Western allies to counter Russia's aerial campaign. Borrell took to social media to emphasize the European Union's commitment, stating, "EU support to Ukraine has been my personal priority during my mandate and will remain at the top of the EU's agenda."
The escalating conflict has led to increasing concerns in Ukraine about the future of Western support, especially with the upcoming U.S. administration under President-elect Donald Trump, who has been critical of continued U.S. aid to Ukraine and has voiced ambiguous statements about his approach to the war in Ukraine. Trump's praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin has fueled uncertainties regarding the extent to which Kyiv can rely on future U.S. backing.
In contrast, Russian officials reported that they had destroyed 50 Ukrainian drones over seven regions in Russia, with more than half of them targeted in the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine. These continued strikes from both sides highlight the ongoing nature of the conflict, with little sign of a ceasefire or resolution in the near future.
