UAE Fujairah Dana Light Rainfall Eastern Coast Rain

Post by : Bianca Qureshi

Residents across the Northern Emirates woke up to heavy rain on Friday as a strong weather system moved across the region, bringing thunderstorms, lightning, and cooler temperatures.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), intense rainfall was reported in areas including Khorfakkan, Masafi, and Al Manama, with mountainous regions of Fujairah experiencing the heaviest showers. The downpour caused water to flow across roads, especially in low-lying and hilly areas.

The rain was accompanied by lightning and thunder, creating dramatic weather conditions along the east coast. While the weather brought a noticeable drop in temperatures and a winter-like feel, it also increased the risk of flooding in natural valleys and depressions.

Weather Alerts Issued

The NCM has issued yellow and red alerts for several parts of the Northern and Eastern UAE, urging residents to remain alert and take precautions. These warnings are due to the formation of convective clouds, which are responsible for heavy rainfall and may move further inland.

Scattered showers are also expected in parts of Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah as the system progresses.

Weather Conditions Explained

Weather experts say the rainfall is caused by a surface low-pressure system combined with an upper-air low pressure, creating unstable atmospheric conditions. Winds may reach speeds of up to 40 km/h, which could raise dust and reduce visibility on highways.

What to Expect Next

  • Rainy and cloudy conditions may continue through the weekend

  • Cooler temperatures, especially in northern and mountainous areas

  • High humidity at night and early mornings, with chances of fog or mist

  • Weather conditions may change quickly from day to day

Authorities have advised residents to follow official updates from the NCM, avoid flood-prone areas, and drive carefully on wet roads, especially during reduced visibility.
