Ksenia Karelina, a woman who is both an American and Russian citizen, has been set free from a jail in Russia. Her lawyer said she is now going back to the United States. Last year, a Russian court said she was guilty of helping Ukraine by sending money to a US group that gives food and care to people there. For this, she was charged with treason, which means acting against her country.

Ksenia was let go as part of a deal between the US and Russia, where each country gave back a person. This kind of deal is called a prisoner swap. The Wall Street Journal said that the head of the CIA (America’s spy group) and a top Russian officer met in Abu Dhabi to talk about this deal.
In return, the US sent back a man named Arthur Petrov. He is both a Russian and German citizen. He was arrested in 2023 in Cyprus because the US said he was trying to send special electronic parts out of the country. These parts are used in machines for the army.
The US said Petrov was working with people who send tools and weapons to help the Russian military. That is why he was caught.
This exchange shows that, even though the US and Russia do not agree on many things, they can still work out deals to send people back to their home countries.
