Japan has decided to give India two sets of Shinkansen trains for free to help test the new high-speed rail between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. These trains will arrive in India in early 2026. They will be used to collect important information on how the trains work in India's weather and dust. The trains will help make sure the new high-speed rail works well in India's hot climate and dusty conditions.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is very important for India. It is the country’s first high-speed rail, which will connect two major cities. The trains from Japan will help test how well the rail line works and give important data for future trains. In the future, India will make its own E10 trains, which will be used on this rail line by the early 2030s.
Until the new E10 trains are ready, India will use trains made in India. These trains will be changed to go faster so that they can be used on the high-speed rail line.
Most of the money for the bullet train project is coming from Japan, which is giving India low-interest loans in yen. These loans will cover about 80% of the total cost. But because the costs are going up, India and Japan will make a new loan plan to help pay for the future E10 trains. This plan will be talked about when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Japan for a meeting.
The Shinkansen technology from Japan is very important to this project. Japan is proud of its fast and safe trains, and it wants to help India use this technology to build a successful rail system. The E5 and E3 Shinkansen trains that will be sent to India are famous for their speed and comfort. These trains will help test how the rail tracks work and how the trains perform.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is being built by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). Work began in November 2021 and is moving forward. Bridges are being built over six rivers on the rail line, and there will be a total of 24 bridges. Twenty of these bridges will be in Gujarat, and the other four will be in Maharashtra.
The bullet train project will connect many cities. People will be able to travel from Surat to Mumbai for work and come back home at night. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that this project will bring all these cities closer together and help the economy grow.
This project will change the way people travel in India. It will connect cities faster, helping the economy and making travel easier for everyone.
