Sharjah Police has opened four new and modern libraries at the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre. This was done in partnership with Knowledge Without Borders to encourage reading and learning among inmates. The goal is to help them grow intellectually and gain knowledge while they are being rehabilitated.
The libraries were officially opened by Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police. Several important people were present at the event, including Mohammed Khalaf, Director-General of Sharjah Broadcasting Authority and Member of the Sharjah Media Council, Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association, along with senior police officers and officials.

During the visit, Major General bin Amer toured the new libraries. He looked at the wide variety of books, including bestsellers and different types of literature that match the interests of the inmates. He also visited the women’s section and Dar Al Aman Nursery, which cares for the children of female inmates.
The Commander-in-Chief said that this project shows the strong commitment of Sharjah Police and Knowledge Without Borders to promote reading and support the rehabilitation of inmates. He explained that through education, skill-building, and emotional support, inmates can develop themselves and prepare for a better future.
Major General bin Amer praised the efforts of the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre for offering various rehabilitation programs. These programs aim to improve the inmates’ skills, expand their knowledge, and help them find future opportunities once they leave the centre. He said the libraries also support the UAE’s bigger goal of empowering people, protecting their rights, and helping them return to society successfully.
Colonel Abdullah Alai Al Naqbi, the Director of the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre, said that the design of the new libraries is based on special research. The goal was to create a welcoming and comfortable space, making it different from regular libraries. This creative design encourages inmates to enjoy reading, helping them develop new skills and broaden their knowledge.
