Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council, Dubai is embarking on a transformative journey to become a more bicycle-friendly city. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans to construct a 13.5 km track tailored for bicycles, scooters, and pedestrians.

This ambitious project aims to create an environment that encourages the community to embrace cycling as a sport and mode of transportation. The track, linking Al Sufouh to Dubai Hills via Hessa Street, is set to feature two architecturally innovative bridges crossing over Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.

Mr. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, elaborated on the project's significance, stating that it is part of the Hessa Street Improvement Project currently undertaken by the RTA. The comprehensive initiative spans 4.5 km between the intersections with Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, encompassing upgrades to four major intersections along Hessa Street.

The multi-use track, measuring 13.5 km in length and 4.5 meters in width, will cater to diverse residential, commercial, and educational areas, as well as service facilities in vibrant neighborhoods like Al Barsha and Al Barsha Heights. Designed to accommodate 5,200 users per hour, the track aims to improve connectivity for first and last-mile trips, linking with key transportation hubs such as the Dubai Internet City Metro Station.

Highlighting the project's innovative features, Al Tayer emphasized the design elements of the two uniquely designed bridges. The first bridge, spanning 528 meters over Sheikh Zayed Road, embodies themes of connectivity with its overlapping lines, while the second bridge, stretching 501 meters over Al Khail Road, offers a tranquil escape with its design inspired by the path of sunlight.

The Hessa Street Improvement Project is expected to cater to a population exceeding 640,000 by 2030. It includes enhancements to four main intersections, namely Sheikh Zayed Road Intersection, First Al Khail Street Intersection, Al Asayel Street Intersection, and Al Khail Road Intersection, aiming to improve traffic flow and enhance overall road infrastructure.

As Dubai continues to prioritize sustainable transportation solutions, initiatives like the Hessa Street Improvement Project underscore the city's commitment to creating a more livable and environmentally conscious urban landscape.
