Saudi Arabia arrests 20,749 for residency, labor violations; deports 10,000+

Dubai: Saudi Arabia has arrested 20,749 people in a nationwide crackdown on people who violated residency, labor, and border security laws. The Ministry of Interior announced this after conducting an inspection campaign across the country.

The operation took place from February 27 to March 5 and was aimed at making sure that people followed the laws properly. The authorities recorded 13,871 violations related to residency, 3,517 violations involving border security, and 3,361 cases of people breaking labor rules.

People Caught Crossing the Borders Illegally

During the crackdown, 1,051 people were caught while trying to enter Saudi Arabia illegally. Among them:

  • 54% were from Ethiopia

  • 43% were from Yemen

  • 3% were from other countries

Additionally, 90 people were arrested for trying to leave Saudi Arabia without proper documents.

Arrests for Helping Illegal Activities

Security forces also arrested 12 people who were accused of helping others enter Saudi Arabia illegally or providing them with transport or jobs.

Right now, 40,173 expatriates—including 35,862 men and 4,311 women—are facing legal action for breaking the rules.

Deportation and Legal Process

Among those arrested:

  • 32,375 people have been told to contact their embassies or consulates to get travel documents.

  • 2,576 people need to book their travel to leave the country.

  • 10,024 people have already been deported by authorities.

Strict Punishments for Lawbreakers

The Ministry of Interior has warned that anyone helping illegal residents—by giving them shelter, transport, or jobs—will face severe punishment. This includes:

  • Up to 15 years in prison

  • Fines of up to 1 million Saudi riyals

  • Confiscation of vehicles or properties used in illegal activities

The Saudi government continues to take strict action to ensure that people follow the rules and laws of the country.
