In Charsadda town, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police thwarted an attempt to marry off a 12-year-old girl to a 72-year-old man, leading to the arrest of the groom, Habib Khan, and the marriage officiator ('Nikkah Khwan'). The girl's father, Alam Syed, had allegedly agreed to sell his daughter to the elderly man for PKR 500,000. Before the 'Nikkah' ceremony could take place, law enforcement intervened, prompting the groom and officiator's arrest. However, Alam Syed managed to escape.
Following the incident, authorities filed a case against Alam Syed, Habib Khan, and the 'Nikkah Khwan' under the Child Marriage Act. This occurrence underscores ongoing challenges despite legal prohibitions against child marriages in Pakistan.
Similar incidents of thwarted child marriages have been reported recently in Rajanpur and Thatta. In Rajanpur, Punjab, police prevented the marriage of an 11-year-old girl to a 40-year-old man. In Thatta, a young girl narrowly escaped being wedded to a 50-year-old landlord due to timely police intervention.

Earlier in Swat, police arrested a 70-year-old man for marrying a 13-year-old girl arranged by her father. The authorities apprehended the groom, the father, and the marriage witnesses, while the minor girl underwent a medical examination at a local hospital.
These incidents highlight the persistent challenges and efforts by law enforcement to combat child marriages in Pakistan, despite existing legal frameworks aimed at protecting minors from such exploitation.
