Dubai, UAE: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has introduced a comprehensive set of new standards aimed at regulating oncology services in health facilities across Dubai. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Emirates Oncology Society, aligns with the strategic goals outlined in Dubai’s Healthcare Strategy 2026. This strategy aspires to create a pioneering healthcare system that enhances patient and family confidence and positions Dubai as a premier healthcare destination with superior patient outcomes.

In its continuous efforts to advance Dubai's healthcare sector, the DHA emphasizes the importance of specialized, high-quality treatment services that prioritize patient safety. The new oncology standards were unveiled during a workshop held at Raffles Hotel in Dubai, which featured participation from Professor Humaid Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Oncology Society at the Emirates Medical Association. Attendees included strategic partners and representatives from various healthcare facilities offering oncological services in the region.

Dr. Marwan Al Mulla, CEO of the Health Regulation Sector at DHA, highlighted the global challenges faced by health authorities in the realm of oncology services. To address these challenges, the DHA has proactively developed these new standards to establish an effective system that delivers advanced oncology services. The standards reflect DHA’s commitment to achieving optimal patient outcomes through high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic services, thereby enhancing the patient recovery experience. The regulations also aim to improve the efficiency, sustainability, and accessibility of healthcare within a patient-centered framework.

Dr. Al Mulla further emphasized that the implementation of these robust regulatory standards will significantly contribute to the growth and development of the healthcare sector in the UAE, particularly in Dubai. By fostering a competitive environment, these standards will encourage healthcare providers to deliver high-quality, specialized oncology services in accordance with international best practices. This initiative is expected to reinforce Dubai's reputation as a leading regional and global healthcare destination.

Dr. Hanan Obaid, Director of the Health Policies and Standards Department at DHA, explained that the new standards were crafted with a strong emphasis on patient-centered care. They encompass a range of regulations and requirements related to medical care, patient safety, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for assessing the quality and effectiveness of oncology services in health facilities. Dr. Obaid noted that these standards are evidence-based and align with best practices to enhance the therapeutic experience for patients, thereby raising the overall quality of services provided.

Dr. Khulood Al Sayegh, Head of the Standards and Guidelines Section at DHA, added that the workshop underscored several critical points regarding the implementation of the new standards for oncology services as mandated by the DHA. The workshop highlighted the necessity of continuously updating these regulations to keep pace with rapid advancements in the field of oncology. Key focus areas included precise diagnostic services, the integration of multispecialty care, and prioritizing patient outcomes and quality of life. The workshop also emphasized the adoption of innovative technologies and smart solutions in patient care programs.

Moreover, the workshop addressed the importance of delivering value-based, efficient, and cost-effective care while ensuring the sustainability and accessibility of these essential services. It also stressed the need for developing oncology services to meet future demands and challenges in patient diagnosis and healthcare delivery.

The DHA’s introduction of these advanced standards marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality and effectiveness of oncology care in Dubai, reinforcing the emirate’s commitment to leading the way in healthcare innovation and excellence.
