A woman in Japan has been arrested for allegedly forcing her partner onto their balcony while he was naked, causing him to die from the cold, police said on Friday.
The 54-year-old woman, who lived in Nagasaki, has been charged with assault and unlawful confinement. According to police reports, the incident happened in February 2022.
Officials said that on that night, the woman forced her 49-year-old common-law husband to step onto the balcony without any clothes. He was locked outside for hours as the temperature dropped to as low as 3.7°C (38.7°F).

The next morning, emergency services were called to the scene. When police arrived, they found the man inside a room in a critical condition. He was rushed to the hospital but later died from hypothermia.
Authorities also revealed that before locking him out, the woman had attacked him with a knife. He suffered nose injuries, which took about two weeks to heal.
Despite the charges, the woman has denied any wrongdoing. "I’ve done nothing," she reportedly told the police.
Officials did not explain why it took so long to arrest her after the incident. Investigations are still ongoing.
