Election Results 2024: Counting Underway for Lok Sabha Polls to Decide Fate of Key Leaders
New Delhi: The counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 is currently underway, determining the electoral fate of several key leaders across the political spectrum. The elections, held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, spanned all 543 Lok Sabha seats.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is aiming for a significant win with a target of 400 seats. On the other hand, the Opposition INDIA bloc is confident of securing around 295 seats.
Several high-profile leaders are in the fray. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are among the senior BJP figures contesting the elections. Key opposition leaders include former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

- **Narendra Modi:** The Prime Minister is seeking a third term from Varanasi, facing Congress leader and INDIA bloc candidate Ajay Rai. The counting is in progress.

- **Rahul Gandhi:** The Congress MP is contesting from two seats—Wayanad in Kerala and Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. In Raebareli, he faces BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh, while in Wayanad, he is up against BJP's K Surendran and CPI-M's Annie Raja. The counting is in progress.

- **Shashi Tharoor:** The senior Congress leader is aiming to retain the Thiruvananthapuram seat in Kerala for a fourth term. He faces Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and CPI's Pannyan Raveendran. Counting is underway.
- **Hema Malini:** The actor-turned-politician is contesting from Mathura, up against Congress' Mukesh Dhangar. Counting is in progress.
- **Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury:** The Congress MP is contesting in Baharampur, West Bengal, against TMC candidate and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan. Counting is underway.
