Global and regional leaders have emphatically rejected the recent Israeli strikes on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), citing blatant breaches of international law.
Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit termed the rationalizations for these attacks as illegal, stressing that the intent was to jeopardize UNRWA’s operations in the occupied Palestinian territories. He cautioned that such aggressions undermine the agency's capacity to provide essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees.
Mohamed bin Ahmed Al-Yammahi, President of the Arab Parliament, echoed these sentiments, labeling the Israeli actions a direct infringement of international principles. He called on the global community to implement strong measures to safeguard the premises of international organizations and their personnel. Al-Yammahi placed the blame for the escalation squarely on Israeli authorities and its broader humanitarian implications.
Aboul Gheit further urged nations around the globe to act promptly to halt the aggression directed at UNRWA. He highlighted the organization’s vital role in providing education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid while noting that the UN has recently renewed its mandate for three more years.
The unified stand from both the UN and Arab parliamentary leadership stresses increasing global worry over the assaults on humanitarian entities in conflict zones, prompting urgent demands for accountability and protection for international staff.
