Global Affairs Canada Confirms Death of Canadian Citizen in Ireland

Global Affairs Canada confirmed on Tuesday that a Canadian citizen has died in Ireland. The department conveyed its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased and stated that consular assistance is being provided to the family. However, due to privacy considerations, no further information about the individual has been disclosed.

The Irish public broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTE) reported earlier on Tuesday that a Canadian tourist from Montreal had been assaulted in Dublin on June 23 and later died in Mater Hospital. While Global Affairs Canada did not confirm these details, the Garda, Ireland’s national police force, confirmed they are investigating the case of a man in his 40s who was assaulted on June 23 and died on Tuesday at Mater Hospital. The Garda did not confirm the nationality or identity of the man.

Four men have been arrested in connection with the assault. Two of these men have been charged and have appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice. The Garda spokesperson indicated that no further details could be provided as the case is ongoing and before the courts.

This tragic incident has raised concerns and questions about the safety of tourists and the nature of the assault, but specific details remain limited due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation.
