Convicted felon Thomas Routt Jr. confessed to fatally shooting newlyweds Gina Weingart, 37, and Emerson Weingart, 33, inside a Wisconsin bar for a meager sum of less than $150 from the cash drawer, according to police statements. The incident occurred on February 1, leading to Routt's arrest on two counts of first-degree intentional homicide. Gina, an employee at Sports Page Barr, and her husband were gunned down as Routt brandished a handgun after playing a video game. Witnesses reported him ordering victims not to move before opening fire.
Routt admitted to stealing between $120 and $140 before fleeing in his car. The eyewitnesses, including the bartender, managed to escape and alerted the police. The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office arrested Routt on February 4, while he was on parole for arson. He faces additional charges, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide, armed robbery, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
During questioning, Routt confessed to shooting both victims and firing at a witness as they fled. He disclosed discarding the weapon and ammunition in a trash receptacle at the Handi-Mart in Lake Como, leading to the recovery of a 9mm handgun and ammo. Routt, who appeared in court, will face further legal proceedings, with his attorney stating an intention to plead not guilty. Emerson’s father, Jeff Weingart, referred to Routt as a "monster" during court proceedings. The defense is awaiting any potential surveillance footage that could shed light on the events. Routt is set to appear in court again on February 21
