Many people in the United States could not use X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday because the platform had a big problem. A website called Downdetector.com, which watches for website and app issues, said that more than 18,000 users reported problems with X by 3:07 PM ET.
People said they could not open the app, see new posts, or send messages. Some saw error messages when they tried to use the site. Downdetector checks different places, like user reports and social media posts, to find out when a website is not working properly.

During the time X was down, many people went to other social media apps to talk about the problem. Some shared screenshots showing that the site would not load. Many users were upset and wanted to know why it was happening.
There was no clear reason for the problem, and X did not quickly give an official answer. Some people think the issue could be caused by too many users at the same time, a system problem, or updates being made in the background.
This is not the first time X has had trouble. Since Elon Musk bought the company, there have been many changes, such as cutting staff and updating systems. Some experts believe these changes have made the site weaker and more likely to have problems.
Later in the afternoon, fewer people were reporting issues, which showed that the platform was slowly coming back. But many users were still unhappy because X did not explain what went wrong.
