An entrepreneur specializing in distributing in-demand technology has finally acquired the rare Tesla Cybertruck and is set to begin renting out this robust off-roader starting next week. This dual-motor electric vehicle, renowned for its bulletproof exoskeleton and shatterproof windscreen, offers a substantial range of 400km after an eight-hour charge. Furthermore, the Cybertruck can accelerate to 100kph in just 6.7 seconds and boasts a top speed of approximately 180kph. The rental rates are set at Dh700 ($190) per hour or Dh2,800 per day.
Despite arriving two months later than anticipated, the wait has been worthwhile, according to Russian entrepreneur Kirill Sosnovyi, founder and owner of Dubai-based Connect Ai. Mr. Sosnovyi attributes the delay to the high demand and the premium prices in the US market, which complicate the import process. The vehicle is now on display alongside a Tesla Roadster in a showroom located on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai.

“The main reason these cars are so hard to get into the UAE is because there is a big waiting list and the US market is overpriced,” explained Mr. Sosnovyi. He elaborated that few people are aware of the possibility of purchasing from the secondary market in the US. While this option provides relatively quick delivery, it comes with a significant cost. Shipping the vehicle by sea, for instance, would take at least three months.
Mr. Sosnovyi initially expected to receive the Cybertruck in March, having paid $50,000 over the $81,000 list price for the vehicle several months before the official UAE Tesla launch. However, he encountered additional challenges, including falling victim to a fraudster in the US who posed as a broker offering two Cybertrucks from their registered owners, which later turned out to be a scam. Additionally, Tesla has tried to restrict the resale of Cybertrucks within the first year of ownership to manage demand, although enforcement has proven difficult. Some US buyers have sought to capitalize on the high demand in a limited market by reselling their vehicles. Tesla has responded by blacklisting those who attempt to sell their Cybertrucks after delivery, preventing them from making future orders.
Compounding these issues, the first vehicle orders faced a recall in April due to complaints about a sticking accelerator pedal. If pushed hard, the pedal could become trapped, potentially causing the powerful truck to accelerate unintentionally. Consequently, Tesla recalled 3,878 Cybertrucks manufactured between November 2023 and April 2024 to address the issue at no cost to the owners.
While Tesla does not disclose sales figures for specific models, the recall provided some insight into the number of Cybertrucks sold to date. Production at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, is projected to potentially reach 48,500 vehicles this year, according to estimates from investment banks Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and UBS. Despite these early challenges, enthusiasm for the Cybertruck remains undiminished, particularly in Dubai where the vehicle is already drawing significant attention.
“The reaction from people walking past the showroom who have seen it has been crazy,” said Mr. Sosnovyi, who has three additional Cybertrucks on order, including two dual-motor vehicles and a top-of-the-range Cyberbeast capable of reaching 97kph in just 2.68 seconds. He noted that the Cybertruck’s unique design sets it apart from other luxury vehicles commonly seen on the roads, such as Lamborghinis and Ferraris.
“I have never seen anything like this before,” he remarked. “The car looks completely different from anything else on the roads at the moment. People are more interested in this than a Lamborghini or Ferrari, as there are many of those. The Cybertruck looks huge and aggressive. It really is a unique car with an amazing design and because it is so new – there is a lot of interest.”
The excitement surrounding the Cybertruck highlights its distinctive appeal and innovative features. As the first rentable Tesla Cybertruck in Dubai, it represents a significant milestone for both Connect Ai and the local market. The Cybertruck’s introduction offers a fresh and unique option for those seeking a blend of cutting-edge technology and rugged off-road capabilities.
In conclusion, Kirill Sosnovyi’s efforts to bring the Tesla Cybertruck to Dubai underscore the challenges and rewards of importing high-demand technology. Despite delays and obstacles, his determination has paid off, resulting in a notable addition to the region's automotive offerings. The Cybertruck’s impressive specifications, coupled with its striking design, ensure it will continue to capture the interest and imagination of car enthusiasts and technology aficionados alike.
