The "Basma (Imprint)" Award is divided into two main categories: one for the general public and another for students in schools and universities. The goal is to inspire young minds to think creatively and understand the harmful effects of counterfeit products. These fake goods can cause health, environmental, and economic damage.
Yousef Ozair Mubarak, Director of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Department at Dubai Customs, emphasized the organization's dedication to protecting the rights of inventors, creators, and businesses. He explained that Dubai Customs works hard to raise community awareness about the negative impacts of fake products. Through regular workshops, competitions, and awareness campaigns, they educate people about the importance of respecting intellectual property and supporting genuine innovations. This effort helps maintain Dubai's position as a global hub for creativity and business.
Aisha Harib, Senior Officer for Awareness and Education at the IPR Department, shared more details about the award. She mentioned that Dubai Customs collaborates with the Ministry of Education each year to organize an Intellectual Property Award for students. This year, in honor of the "Year of Community," the competition has been expanded to include the wider public. The aim is to involve more people in learning about intellectual property protection and the value of innovative ideas.
The award features three categories for participants to choose from:
Video Content Campaign: Participants can create a video campaign for social media to raise awareness about intellectual property protection. The content and the chosen platform will need approval from the award team.
Written Article or Short Story: Participants can write an article or story explaining the importance of intellectual property and how counterfeit goods harm society.
Podcast Submission: Participants can produce a podcast discussing intellectual property issues in an engaging and informative way.
Experts in intellectual property protection will guide participants throughout the process. The deadline for submissions is February 17th. After that, the entries will be reviewed between March 3rd and March 25th. The winners will be announced during the World Intellectual Property Day celebrations on April 26th. Cash prizes will be awarded to recognize the best initiatives.
Dubai Customs hopes that the "Basma (Imprint)" Award will motivate more people, especially young students, to become advocates for intellectual property protection. By encouraging creativity and raising awareness about the dangers of counterfeit products, they aim to build a stronger, more innovative community for the future.
