Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced a major plan to become the world’s first fully AI-powered utility company. The announcement was made by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, during the GenAI Week event held at DEWA’s headquarters. The initiative aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) in all of DEWA’s main operations to boost efficiency, improve decision-making, and offer better services.

GenAI Week: A Step Towards the Future

GenAI Week was a four-day event that brought together experts from DEWA along with representatives from top technology companies, including Microsoft, IBM, ServiceNow, and DataRobot. During the event, DEWA revealed its roadmap for using AI in all areas of its work. The plan aims to make the company more productive, simplify administrative processes, and create innovative services that meet the needs of its customers.

Supporting the UAE’s Vision

Al Tayer highlighted that DEWA’s AI roadmap is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The goal is to make the UAE a global leader in AI by boosting government efficiency and adopting advanced technologies.

“This new strategy will help DEWA stay ahead of digital changes and unlock new opportunities for growth in the energy and water sectors. By applying AI to all our services, we will boost productivity, make better decisions, and encourage creativity and innovation. This also supports the UAE’s National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which aims to make the UAE a top global AI hub,” Al Tayer said.

Empowering Employees with AI Skills

Al Tayer also spoke about DEWA’s focus on training its employees in AI. By working with leading tech companies, DEWA will offer its staff advanced AI training. This will help them stay up to date with the latest technology, improve their skills, and increase overall efficiency.

AI-Powered Tools Already in Use

At the GenAI Week exhibition, DEWA showcased some of the AI technologies it has already implemented. These include:

  • Rammas at Work: An AI-powered tool used across various departments, including Power Generation and Distribution, Water and Civil, Business Development, Human Resources, Billing, and Legal Affairs.

  • Khadamatech e-services portal: DEWA has improved this platform with AI to enhance employee services, IT support, governance, compliance procedures, and security policies.

These existing AI applications will act as the foundation for DEWA’s broader transformation into an AI-driven utility.

By embracing AI at every level, DEWA aims to set a new global standard in the utility sector, boosting efficiency, improving service quality, and driving sustainable growth.
