In a major act of kindness during the holy month of Ramadan, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 1,295 prisoners from correctional facilities across the country. Among them are nearly 500 Indian nationals. Along with granting their freedom, the President has also promised to pay off any financial penalties they owed as part of their sentences.
This gesture is part of the UAE’s long-standing tradition of granting pardons during Ramadan. It reflects the nation’s values of mercy and compassion, giving prisoners a chance to rebuild their lives. The move also aims to reduce the emotional and financial burden on their families, strengthen social stability, and promote forgiveness.
Release Announced in Late February
The decision to grant clemency was announced in late February. According to reports, UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also issued a similar pardon. He ordered the release of 1,518 inmates from Dubai’s correctional and punitive facilities.

Sheikh Mohammed’s pardon applies to prisoners of different nationalities. The aim is to reunite them with their loved ones and help them reintegrate into society. The release offers them a chance for a fresh start and a better future.
Legal Procedures Underway
Dubai’s Attorney General, Chancellor Essam Issa Al-Humaidan, confirmed that the legal process to release the prisoners is already in progress. Dubai Public Prosecution and Dubai Police are working together to complete the necessary procedures as quickly as possible.
Al-Humaidan said the decision highlights Sheikh Mohammed’s dedication to giving people who have made mistakes a second chance. It also shows the UAE’s commitment to fairness and compassion.
Promoting Social Stability
The mass release of inmates also helps reduce the prison population in the UAE. It supports social stability by easing the emotional and financial stress on the families of the prisoners. This gesture of mercy during Ramadan reflects the country’s strong values of humanity and generosity.
