Babysitter finds man hiding under child's bed in Kansas home

A regular bedtime routine turned into a terrifying night for a babysitter and the children she was watching in Kansas.

On Monday night, around 10:30 p.m., a woman was putting the children she babysat to bed. While getting ready, one of the children said there was a "monster" under their bed. Wanting to comfort the child, the babysitter checked under the bed to show them there was nothing to be afraid of. However, to her shock, she came face-to-face with a grown man hiding there.

According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, the man and the babysitter got into a physical struggle. During the fight, one of the children was accidentally knocked over. The man then ran out of the house before the police could arrive.

Deputies searched the area but couldn’t find the suspect. However, the next day, officers spotted him. When they tried to stop him, he attempted to run away but was eventually caught by deputies after a foot chase.

The man was identified as 27-year-old Martin Villalobos Jr. Police later revealed that Villalobos had once lived in the house. However, he was under a court order that banned him from going near the property due to a protection-from-abuse order.

Villalobos was arrested and taken to Barton County Jail. His bail was set at $500,000. He is now facing serious charges, including:

• Aggravated kidnapping

• Aggravated burglary

• Aggravated battery

• Child endangerment

• Felony obstruction of law enforcement

• Violating a protection-from-abuse order

Similar Incident in 2022
This isn't the first time such a frightening event has happened. In August 2022, a man named Garrett Brent Henstra Bills was found hiding under a seven-year-old girl's bed in Utah. The girl’s father discovered Bills, who was dressed in all black with a shirt tied around his face as a mask. The father fought with the man until police arrived.

Authorities later learned that Bills had been sneaking into the girl's room for three weeks and had inappropriately touched her during one of those times. Bills was charged with aggravated burglary, burglary of a home, and aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Both incidents serve as a reminder for parents and guardians to stay alert and ensure their homes are secure.
