Delhi's Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, spoke out on Tuesday about complaints from parents regarding sudden fee hikes by some private schools. She promised that the government would take action against those schools that have increased their fees unfairly.

Rekha Gupta explained that many parents have come to her with their concerns, and she made it clear that no school has the right to overcharge parents or threaten children. She added that there are rules in place about how schools can raise their fees, and these rules must be followed. If any school ignores these rules, they will face consequences. The government has already sent notices to the schools that have received complaints about fee increases.

Last week, a group of parents protested outside a private school in Dwarka because the school had raised its fees. The parents also claimed that for the past 25 days, students had been kept inside the school library during school hours as a form of punishment.

A parent mentioned that since March 20, the students have been kept in the library for long periods without proper teaching.

Delhi’s Education Minister, Ashish Sood, said that after receiving complaints about the frequent fee hikes, an inspection team visited the school in Dwarka. He also mentioned that sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) in the city have been asked to check schools and gather responses through an 18-point questionnaire. This questionnaire will help the government see if the schools are following the rules. A new committee has been set up to look into these matters, and it includes the Deputy Director of Education and the Director of Accounts.

In addition, the Education Department has set up a special email address where parents can send their complaints about unfair fee hikes.

On Sunday, Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for ruining the education system. He claimed that the BJP wanted to keep people uneducated. He also pointed out that private schools in Delhi were raising fees without following the rules, and he blamed the BJP for allowing this to happen.

In a recent post on social media, Kejriwal accused the education system in Delhi of being controlled by "education mafias" under the BJP government. He said that the BJP government was allowing these mafias to mistreat children because they had too much control over the government.

Manish Sisodia, another AAP leader, called for a CBI investigation into the fee hikes. He said that private schools were taking advantage of the situation by raising fees without permission. Sisodia mentioned that when he was the Education Minister in 2015, he introduced reforms to control fee hikes in private schools. He said that many schools are now raising fees without any valid reason and without improving teacher salaries or school expenses.

In summary, the Delhi government is taking action against private schools that are raising fees unfairly, and they are investigating complaints from parents. Meanwhile, political leaders are blaming each other for allowing these issues to continue.
