India is very upset after a security problem happened during Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to the United Kingdom. A small group of pro-Khalistan people gathered outside Chatham House in London, where Jaishankar was attending a meeting on Wednesday. The protesters held flags, used loudspeakers, and shouted slogans while the minister was inside.

The Indian government reacted strongly. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, "We saw the videos of this security problem. We do not support what these people did. They are separatists and extremists. Democracy should not be misused like this. We expect the UK government to do its duty and take action."
Even with the protests, Jaishankar did not stop his work. He met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Foreign Secretary David Lammy, and other important leaders.
On Tuesday, Jaishankar also had a meeting with UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper. They talked about many things like allowing skilled workers to move between India and the UK, helping people from both countries meet and work together, and fighting human trafficking and extremism. Jaishankar later posted on social media, "Had a good meeting with Home Secretary @YvetteCooperMP today in London. We spoke about talent exchange, people-to-people ties, and fighting against trafficking and extremism."
This is not the first time that pro-Khalistan groups have protested in London. In January, they also gathered outside the Indian High Commission.
In another recent event, some Khalistani supporters attacked a cinema in Harrow, London. They tried to stop the screening of the Bollywood movie 'Emergency,' which stars actress Kangana Ranaut. Talking about these problems, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India keeps telling the UK government about these protests and the threats from anti-India groups.
"We have shared our concerns many times with the UK government. Freedom of speech should not be used in the wrong way. Those who try to stop others should face action," Jaiswal said.
During his UK visit, Jaishankar also met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street. He gave greetings from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and spoke about important world and India-UK matters. "We discussed better economic cooperation and making it easier for people from both countries to meet and work together. PM Starmer also shared his views on the Ukraine conflict," Jaishankar said.
Jaishankar’s UK visit is part of a larger tour that also includes Ireland. He is discussing many important topics, including the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
