On January 19, 2025, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, launched the Media Leadership Programme. This new programme is a part of the Dubai Media Council's larger plan to improve and grow the media sector in the city.
The aim of the programme is to raise Dubai’s position as a global media leader. It will help find and develop talented leaders who can create powerful stories that highlight the city's achievements and future goals. These leaders will be trained to communicate clearly about Dubai’s progress and plans to the world.
The programme will teach participants important skills to build strong teams and create media strategies. These strategies will focus on showcasing Dubai's role in shaping the future of different industries. The goal is to boost Dubai’s media profile and position it as a key player on the world stage.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed emphasized Dubai’s dedication to supporting the media sector. He stated that the city is committed to strengthening its media capabilities to play a bigger role in the country’s growth. He also pointed out the importance of building partnerships with global experts and institutions to help reach Dubai’s vision for the media.

Mona Ghanem Al Marri, the Vice Chairperson of the Dubai Media Council, said the Council is fully focused on advancing the media sector with new and creative initiatives. She also spoke about the guidance of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s ruler, whose leadership is always focused on making Dubai more competitive and ensuring its message stays strong and clear.
The first group of participants in the Media Leadership Programme comes from Dubai’s government and semi-government bodies. This group will be trained to improve their skills in government communication. They will learn how to engage with both local and international media to strengthen Dubai’s reputation around the world.
The first lesson of the programme will focus on government communication. The session will cover the latest methods and best practices used by governments worldwide. Participants will learn how to manage government communications effectively and make sure the information they share is accurate and clear.
Nehal Badri, the Secretary-General of the Dubai Media Council, mentioned that the first session of the programme will include 24 participants from 20 different government and semi-government departments. The session will focus on developing leadership skills and strategic thinking in government communication. The programme will include lectures, hands-on training, and talks by global experts. Participants will also have the chance to travel to other countries to see the best government communication practices in action.
The programme will be held in collaboration with prestigious universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), George Washington University, and Columbia University. Participants will learn from international experts and have the chance to visit countries that excel in government communication. They will also earn certificates from some of the world’s leading academic institutions.
The nine-month programme will focus on teaching leadership teams how to effectively share government news and achievements. By doing this, the programme hopes to help build Dubai’s image as a global hub for business, sustainability, and innovation. Through these efforts, Dubai will be seen as a city leading the way in the future.
