Vietnam has reported a significant rise in its trade surplus with the United States, reaching $121.6 billion in the first 11 months of this year, according to official data released on Saturday. Despite U.S. import tariffs introduced in August aimed at curbing Vietnam’s trade advantage, Vietnamese exports have surged, demonstrating the resilience and competitiveness of the country’s manufacturing and export sectors.
The Southeast Asian nation continues to engage in trade negotiations with Washington, seeking a more balanced agreement, but so far, it has largely navigated the impact of the 20% duties imposed by the Trump administration. Analysts say that the surge in exports reflects Vietnam’s strong supply chain and the high demand for its goods in the U.S., which remains its largest trading partner.
Vietnam’s ability to maintain and even grow its trade surplus with the U.S. highlights its strategic position in global trade, as well as the increasing demand for electronics, textiles, and other Vietnamese-made products in the American market. The ongoing trade talks with the United States aim to address long-term issues and ensure continued growth in bilateral trade while mitigating the effects of tariffs.
This development reinforces Vietnam’s status as a key player in Asia’s export-driven economy and signals its growing influence in U.S.-Asia trade relations, even amid tariff challenges.
