London: Linda De Sousa Abreu, a 30-year-old woman from Fulham, west London, is facing charges of misconduct in public office after a social media video allegedly depicting her engaging in sexual activity with an inmate at HMP Wandsworth surfaced.
The Metropolitan Police initiated an investigation following the emergence of the video, reportedly filmed within the confines of HMP Wandsworth, a historic prison known for severe overcrowding and deteriorating conditions. The footage purportedly shows Abreu initially in full prison officer uniform before the alleged incident occurs.
HMP Wandsworth, established in 1851, currently operates at 163 percent of its intended capacity, accommodating more than 1,500 inmates amidst ongoing challenges such as violence, vermin infestation, and staffing shortages.

The dire situation prompted Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor to issue an "urgent notification" to Justice Secretary Alex Chalk in May, underscoring the urgent need for reforms. Taylor's report highlighted chaotic conditions within the prison wings and the staff's inability to effectively manage or supervise inmates. In response to these issues, the prison's governor, Katie Price, resigned during the inspection period.
A spokesperson from Scotland Yard confirmed the active investigation, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards staff corruption. The Prison Service representative stated that the former prison officer involved in the video has been reported to the police, refraining from further comments pending ongoing investigations.
Linda De Sousa Abreu is scheduled to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court today to face charges related to misconduct in public office, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the allegations
