Climate activists targeted a private airfield at Stansted airport, northeast of London, where Taylor Swift's luxury jet is stationed. This action occurred a day after similar activists sprayed an orange substance on Stonehenge, the prehistoric UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On Thursday, two activists from the climate protest group Just Stop Oil gained access to the airfield and sprayed private jets with orange paint. Essex Police reported that they arrested two women, aged 22 and 28, on suspicion of criminal damage and interference with national infrastructure.
Just Stop Oil identified the activists as Jennifer Kowalski, 28, and Cole Macdonald, 22. According to the group’s statement, they used fire extinguishers filled with orange paint to deface two private jets. The activists demanded that Britain's next government, following the July 4 general election, commit to phasing out fossil fuels by 2030.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Just Stop Oil stated: "Jennifer and Cole cut the fence into the private airfield at Stansted where @taylorswift13's jet is parked, demanding an emergency treaty to end fossil fuels by 2030." An accompanying video showed one of the activists cutting a hole in the fence before spraying the paint on the jets.
Taylor Swift has faced criticism for her use of private jets. In 2022, British sustainability marketing firm Yard listed her as the top "worst private jet CO2 emission offender" among celebrities. Her jet flew 170 times that year, with total flight emissions amounting to 8,293.54 tonnes, which is 1,184.8 times more than the average person's emissions.
The protest at Stansted airport followed an earlier incident where activists sprayed an orange substance on Stonehenge. Just Stop Oil said two activists "decorated Stonehenge in orange powder paint" in a move condemned by political leaders and heritage organizations. Police arrested two individuals on suspicion of damaging the ancient monument.
