On December 23, a sad incident took place when a cabin crew member from Swiss International Air Lines died after a plane had to make an emergency landing. The flight, an Airbus A220-300, was flying from Bucharest to Zurich. The plane had 74 passengers and 5 crew members on board. During the flight, there were engine problems, and smoke filled the cockpit and the cabin. Because of this, the plane had to land in Graz, Austria. Fortunately, the plane landed safely.
Swiss International Air Lines shared the sad news that one of their cabin crew members passed away in the hospital in Graz on Monday. The airline said, “We are deeply sorry to report that our young colleague passed away in the hospital in Graz on Monday.” The CEO of Swiss, Jens Fehlinger, said the airline was in shock and felt great sadness. He also sent his condolences to the family, saying, "Our thoughts are with his family, and we cannot imagine their pain."
The airline also said they would not share any more details about the employee or the cause of death to respect the family’s privacy.

After the plane made the emergency landing, one crew member was taken by helicopter to the hospital in Graz and was put into intensive care. Another crew member was also taken to the hospital. All the passengers were safely evacuated, and 12 passengers needed medical care. Swiss later confirmed that all of the passengers who were taken to the hospital have now left.
Oliver Buchhofer, the Chief Operating Officer of Swiss, thanked the local emergency teams in Graz for helping the passengers and crew. He also said, “This is the saddest day for all of us. Losing our colleague, who was part of the Swiss family, leaves me heartbroken.”
Swiss International Air Lines is working with the relevant authorities to find out what caused the emergency landing. They are focusing on the mechanical parts of the plane, especially the engine. The airline is also looking into how the cabin crew used protective breathing equipment to keep safe from the smoke. The investigation is still ongoing.
