His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, attended the closing of the 34th Sharjah Theatre Days at the Cultural Palace on Wednesday evening. The event marked the end of a big theatre festival that brought together writers, directors, and actors from different countries.

During the event, His Highness gave awards to the winners of the Sharjah Award for Playwriting in the "texts for adults" category. Omani writer Osama bin Zayed won first place for his play That Dream of Yesterday. Omani writer Naeem Fath Mabrouk took second place for his play Neighing of Sins, and Kuwaiti writer Musa Bahman won third place for his play A Wish of Death.

His Highness also gave awards to the winners of the Sharjah Theatre Days Awards for this year. The Best Integrated Theatrical Performance award went to the play Baba, performed by the Sharjah National Theatre Company. The Best Director award was given to Abdul Rahman Al Mulla for his work on Screams from the Abyss, a play by the Kalba Society for Folk Arts and Heritage. The Best Writer award went to Abdullah Ismail Abdullah for Screams from the Abyss.

In the acting awards, Ahmed Al Jasmi won Best Leading Actor for his role in Baba, and Abeer Al Jasmi won Best Leading Actress for her role in Screams from the Abyss. Mahmoud Al Qattan won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Elkat Saleh, performed by Modern Theatre. The Best Supporting Actress award was given to Badriya Al Ali for her role in Brides of Fire, a play by Khorfakkan Arts Theatre.

The festival also honored new talents in theatre. Kazem Jawad won the Best Promising Actor Award for his role in Baba, while Khawla Abdul Salam won the Best Promising Actress Award for her role in Elkat Saleh.

In the technical and creative awards, Abdullah Al Hammadi won Best Set Design for Heel and Half Shoe, performed by the Yas Arts, Culture and Theatre Association. Khaled Bashir won Best Lighting for Screams from the Abyss, and Ibrahim Al Amiri won Best Music and Sound Effects for Baba.

The Best Makeup award was given to Nasra Al Maamari for her work on Brides of Fire, while Mariam Sameh won Best Costumes and Accessories for Jur Mihrathak, a play by Dibba Al Hisn Theatre.

A special honor was given to Amani Balalaj, who won the Distinguished Arab Artist Award for her role in Baba. The Special Jury Award was given to the play Elkat Saleh by Modern Theatre.

Many important guests attended the event, including Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ruler’s Office; Abdullah Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture; and Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality. The event also had many famous artists, theatre lovers, media people, and cultural experts, all celebrating the success of Sharjah Theatre Days.
