His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), visited Hatta to inspect several electricity infrastructure projects. These projects are part of a major development plan launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The plan aims to improve services and enhance the quality of life for residents in Hatta.
During his visit, Al Tayer emphasized DEWA’s commitment to supporting the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan in Hatta. He highlighted that these projects align with the Dubai Economic Agenda and the Dubai Social Agenda, reinforcing DEWA’s efforts in innovation and sustainability. The electricity projects in Hatta play a key role in achieving Dubai’s clean energy goals under the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These initiatives aim to ensure that by 2050, Dubai’s energy production will come entirely from clean sources.
Al Tayer was accompanied by Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation at DEWA, Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, and other senior officials.

During the tour, Al Tayer inspected the progress of a 132kV substation in Hatta, which has a conversion capacity of 120 megavolt-amperes (MVA). He also reviewed the development of a 132kV transmission overhead cable line project. This project, with a total investment of AED 294.78 million, is set to significantly improve power transmission in Hatta. The work includes installing 82.9 kilometres of overhead power lines, constructing 328 transmission towers, and laying 18 kilometres of underground cables to connect the substations to the main power grid. The project is also essential for integrating renewable energy sources, especially the 250MW hydroelectric power plant that DEWA is constructing in Hatta.
Al Tayer also examined another 132kV transmission substation in Hatta, which has the same 120 MVA conversion capacity. This substation will strengthen the power network to support the increasing electricity demands of Hatta’s communities. The project is expected to be completed by March 2026, with a total investment of AED 116 million.
Al Tayer reaffirmed that DEWA continues to adopt advanced technologies to meet Dubai’s growing electricity needs while prioritizing sustainability. These projects support Dubai’s clean energy goals and contribute to regional and global efforts for a more sustainable future.
