Shankar is survived by his wife Priyanka and daughter Indraja, who has followed in her father’s footsteps by debuting in Atlee’s 2019 film “Bigil” starring Vijay.
The actor had collapsed on a film set on Monday and was admitted to a private hospital, where he was receiving treatment for jaundice and multi-organ failure. Despite intensive care, doctors confirmed that he did not survive.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed deep condolences, recalling Shankar’s ability to entertain audiences through both cinema and television. BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran also mourned the loss, while actor-politician Kamal Haasan was among the first to pay tribute on social media.
Shankar began his career as a mimicry artist, winning audiences with his impressions of stars like Vijayakanth and Sivaji Ganesan. His signature robotic mimicry earned him the nickname ‘Robo’. Later, he transitioned into films, sharing screen space with top actors including Vijay Sethupathi in “Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara”, further solidifying his reputation as one of Tamil cinema’s most beloved comedians.
Robo Shankar was more than just a comedian; he was a source of joy and inspiration for millions of fans. His unique style, infectious energy, and unforgettable performances will continue to be cherished by audiences for generations.
