Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their 17-year losing streak at Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium, with a brilliant 50-run win in Match 8 of the IPL 2025 on Friday. This was RCB’s first victory at this venue since 2008, making the win even more special. After the match, Virat Kohli shared a heartfelt hug with MS Dhoni, and the moment quickly went viral on social media.
RCB’s Batting Performance
Rajat Patidar, RCB’s captain, was the star of the innings, scoring his first half-century as a skipper. He made 51 runs off 30 balls, hitting some stylish shots. However, he was lucky as CSK fielders dropped him twice—once when he was on 17.

RCB’s batting lineup gave a solid performance overall.
Phil Salt started aggressively, scoring 32 off 16 balls with five boundaries and a six.
Virat Kohli played a steady knock of 31 off 30 balls.
Devdutt Padikkal added a quick 27 off 14 balls.
Tim David provided the late fireworks, smashing 22 runs off just 8 balls.
In the final over, David hammered three consecutive sixes off Sam Curran, helping RCB reach a strong total of 199/8.
CSK’s Struggle with the Bat
Chasing 200, CSK lost early wickets and struggled to build partnerships. RCB’s pace bowler Josh Hazlewood struck twice in the second over.
He first dismissed Rahul Tripathi (5), who edged one behind to the wicketkeeper.
Four balls later, Hazlewood got rid of CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (0), who mistimed his shot and was caught at deep fine leg.
CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Deepak Hooda (4), Sam Curran (8), and Rachin Ravindra (41 off 31) fell quickly, leaving CSK struggling at 75/5 in the 12th over.
Shivam Dube (19 off 15) and Ravindra Jadeja (25 off 19) tried to fight back but couldn’t make much impact.
Dhoni’s Late Effort
In the final over, MS Dhoni entertained the crowd with two massive sixes. He remained unbeaten on 30 off 16 balls, becoming CSK’s all-time leading scorer in IPL history with 4,699 runs, surpassing Suresh Raina’s 4,687.
RCB’s Bowling Brilliance
RCB’s bowlers put on a disciplined show.
Josh Hazlewood was the star with figures of 3/21.
Yash Dayal chipped in with 2/18, while Liam Livingstone also grabbed 2/28.
Their clever bowling variations and tight lines made it difficult for CSK to score freely.
Key Moments
Noor Ahmad was the pick of the CSK bowlers, taking 3/36.
Matheesha Pathirana claimed two wickets in the death overs, giving CSK some hope.
However, RCB’s all-round performance was too strong, handing CSK their biggest-ever defeat at Chepauk.
