Doha, Qatar | June 19, 2025 — Acclaimed curator Cristina Bernardini has been officially appointed as the Ambassador for Portugal for the 2025 edition of the Qatar International Art Festival (QIAF), one of the most significant cultural events in the Middle East. Her appointment is part of a selective and prestigious roster of 31 cultural ambassadors chosen from around the globe, recognizing professionals whose efforts have had a meaningful impact on the international art scene.
Cristina Bernardini’s nomination acknowledges her outstanding curatorial career, as well as her longstanding dedication to promoting visual arts and fostering global cultural exchange. Her work has been instrumental in bridging Portuguese visual arts with the broader international community, building a reputation for cultural diplomacy through creativity and curation.
Now entering its 7th edition, QIAF is set to take place from 7 to 12 December 2025 at the iconic Katara Cultural Village in Doha. Over the years, the festival has established itself as one of the largest and most influential art events in Qatar and the Middle East, consistently drawing hundreds of artists, curators, collectors, and institutions from all over the world.
In 2024, the festival registered participation from over 700 artists representing 75 countries, highlighting its global stature. QIAF continues to be a powerful platform not just for art exhibition, but also for cultural dialogue, professional exchange, and artistic recognition. Events at the festival include live painting symposiums, master classes, artistic fashion shows, cultural tours, and more — creating an immersive and dynamic experience for participants and audiences alike.
As Qatar increasingly positions itself as a cultural capital in the region, QIAF plays a vital role in shaping the country’s identity as a hub for creativity and cross-cultural connection. The festival provides meaningful opportunities for both emerging and established artists to gain exposure, network with art experts and critics, and contribute to the evolving narrative of contemporary art.
Cristina Bernardini’s ambassadorship underscores the significance of Portugal’s presence in global art forums and reflects the growing recognition of European artistic voices in the Middle Eastern cultural space. Her involvement is expected to further strengthen ties between artists from different continents and promote artistic cooperation through shared platforms.
QIAF’s commitment to inclusivity, professional development, and cultural celebration makes it a landmark event for the international art community. With ambassadors like Bernardini, the festival continues to expand its global outreach and cultural impact.
