The inaugural WSJ Tech Live Qatar 2025 event launched on Tuesday in Doha, making history as the first major technology conference held in the MENA region. Attended by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, the event gathered over 200 leaders including CEOs, investors, and industry specialists from technology, finance, and entertainment sectors globally.

As a premier global platform, WSJ Tech Live presents an opportunity to discuss technology's significant impact on business, regulatory frameworks, and innovation strategies. The event featured a panel discussion led by Dow Jones CEO Almar Latour, highlighting themes of digital transformation and economic diversification aimed at bolstering Qatar's competitive edge.

The Prime Minister noted that Qatar is emerging as a strategic link between East and West, positioning itself as a regional leader in logistics, energy, and diplomatic relations. He underlined that hosting WSJ Tech Live in Doha exemplifies Qatar’s resolve to diversify its economy and encourage a culture of innovation. Recent tech events such as the Mobile World Congress and Web Summit illustrate this commitment by attracting global participants and investors seeking opportunities in the region.

In his remarks, HE Sheikh Mohammed pointed out that while the nation's economy has historically depended on hydrocarbons, non-hydrocarbon industries now spearhead Qatar's growth. The Qatar Investment Authority plays a pivotal role in diversifying the economic base and exploring new sectors. Establishing a robust technology ecosystem will support essential fields like healthcare and education, aligning with Qatar's ambitions for a service-oriented economy and leadership in AI solutions.

The Prime Minister also highlighted national entities like Qatar Airways, Qatar Energy, and Ooredoo, noting their contributions to the nation’s global standing. A heightened focus on technology is anticipated to bolster economic performance and enhance digital infrastructure. Qatar’s advanced 5G network is creating an environment conducive to innovation and development.

AI integration is a top priority, with initial efforts already underway across governmental institutions. The country seeks to implement 50 AI-powered public services by 2029, collaborating with international firms to leverage AI in key sectors like aviation.

Almar Latour commended Qatar’s ambition in AI and the strategic significance of the conference within the region. Over the three days, key sessions will delve into fintech, digital currencies, sports, media, and defense technologies, featuring prominent figures such as Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian.

This conference is the result of an enduring alliance between the Government Communications Office and Dow Jones, showcasing Qatar’s evolving role as a global tech event hub while providing local businesses the chance to engage with international investors and innovators.
