Twinkle Randhawa, a 24-year-old from Punjab, was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in Italy last week. His grieving family is demanding an urgent investigation and support from the Indian government to repatriate his body for last rites.

Having relocated to Italy just four months prior, Twinkle aimed to forge a better future. His financially struggling parents even incurred a loan to facilitate his move. Before Italy, he spent a year in Dubai, full of aspirations, now shattered by the uncertainties surrounding his death.

After several days without contact, Twinkle’s family reached out to his housemates in Italy. The responses were inconsistent and perplexing, with some claiming he hadn’t awakened while others suggested he had been taken by authorities, leaving the family without concrete information.

Sarban Singh, a relative, mentioned, “Every time we inquired about Twinkle, the responses varied. The family is in a dire financial situation, and his father drives to support us all.”

Jagir Singh, Twinkle’s father and a driver in Punjab, recounted his last conversation with his son just two days earlier, where Twinkle sounded fine. “He seemed alright during our last talk, and then he just vanished from contact,” he noted.

According to friends, Twinkle reportedly fainted in a park and was given lemonade before allegedly being taken by police, but the family is still unclear about the sequence of events leading to his death.

Twinkle’s mother, Baljeet Kaur, recalled their last conversation, noting he appeared well. The following day, she was informed by a flatmate that Twinkle had gone out with friends, but later, she received vague updates claiming he had suffered a heart attack.

Twinkle had ambitions of bringing his mother to Italy once he was settled, dreaming of a reunion in the near future. His mother expressed her heartbreak, stating, “He was my youngest and dearest child. He always promised to bring me over once he was established. I never thought this would be the outcome. I urge the government to assist in bringing my son’s body back for final rites in Punjab.”

The family's suffering underscores the need for clarity and assistance. They are calling on the Indian government to act swiftly to ensure Twinkle’s remains are returned to India for traditional cremation in accordance with Punjabi customs.
