Elon Musk has caused a stir by encouraging people in Germany to support the far-right party, Alternative for Germany (AfD). He said this in a talk with the party's leader, Alice Weidel, on his social media platform, X. They discussed many topics such as immigration, Germany’s government rules, energy plans, space, and even Adolf Hitler. Musk said that the AfD could solve many of Germany’s problems and called Weidel a sensible leader. He also said that if people don’t support the AfD, things in Germany could get worse.

The AfD has been called a far-right, extremist group because of its views on immigration and Islam. Musk’s support of the party has made people in Germany worried. The AfD is currently in second place in the polls, but other political parties refuse to work with them, meaning it will likely not form a government. Still, critics fear that Musk’s backing could make the AfD more popular and hurt other parties.
Musk’s support of right-wing parties in Europe comes after he used his platform to help Donald Trump win the U.S. election in 2020. Weidel thanked Musk for his help, saying that she hasn’t been allowed to speak freely in the media for years. She also denied that her party is similar to Hitler’s Nazi party, arguing that Hitler was a communist and not right-wing, though most historians say Hitler was far-right.
Musk defended his involvement in Germany’s politics, saying it was because of Tesla’s big investment there. He shared his frustration about the large amount of paperwork required to get the Tesla factory approved in Germany. Musk also praised the AfD’s policies on taxes and rules.
The two leaders also discussed energy, with Musk agreeing that Germany’s decision to shut down nuclear power plants was a bad one, especially since the country had lost its gas supply from Russia. Musk said that it didn’t make sense to close the plants and praised Germany’s efforts in renewable energy.
Musk also shared his thoughts on space travel and God, but avoided giving his opinion on the war in Ukraine, saying it was up to Trump to handle that issue. His conversation with Weidel has raised concerns across Europe, with some leaders calling for stronger rules to stop outside influences in politics. The European Union has said it will look into whether Musk’s actions violate its laws about social media and content.
Musk’s growing influence in European politics has many people worried about the impact of his support for extreme political parties and how it could change public opinion in Europe.
