On Sunday, Jordan's King Abdullah engaged in a humanitarian aid air drop to Gaza, as reported by the state-owned Al Mamlaka broadcaster. A video depicted the monarch in military attire aboard a plane during the most recent mission conducted by the Jordanian air force, delivering crucial medical supplies to the field hospitals it operates in the conflict-ridden enclave. Official media stated that the latest airdrop took place on February 6.
To date, the kingdom has executed 11 air drops, with at least two carried out in collaboration with the French and Dutch air forces to provide essential medical assistance.
Expressing his vocal opposition to Israel's ongoing campaign, King Abdullah embarked on a tour of major Western capitals last Thursday. He is scheduled to meet with US President Joe Biden in Washington on February 12, where he will advocate for an immediate ceasefire.
Jordan achieved a diplomatic success in persuading Israel to permit the World Food Programme (WFP) to send deliveries to Gaza via an alternative land route originating from Jordan. This initiative aims to alleviate pressure on the main Rafah border crossing, which has limited capacity.
Given its proximity to the West Bank, Jordan is concerned about the potential spread of the Gaza conflict. The nation fears that violence may escalate, leading to armed settlers, backed by the army, triggering a substantial Palestinian exodus across the Jordan River.
