IOC awards Taekwondo athlete Dunya Abu Talib Equality & Inclusion Award

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded Saudi Taekwondo national team athlete Dunya Abu Talib the 2024 Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Award for Asia, a first in the history of Saudi sports.
Abu Talib’s achievement – after being the first Saudi woman to qualify for the Olympic Games and win a gold medal in the Asian Games -- is recognition of her prominentrole in promoting gender equality in sports and her inspiring contributions to empowering female athletes both locally and internationally.

Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) president Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal expressed his pride in the achievement, which reflects the significant progress of women's sports in the Kingdom, supported by the unlimited backing of the Kingdom’s leadership. He pointed out that the recognition affirms that Saudi women now play a pivotal role in global sports, serving as an incentive for the next generation of female athletes to achieve even greater successes.

For her part, Abu Talib expressed her happiness with this achievement, which reflects the efforts made to empower and support women toward excellence. She currently is ranked first globally in the World Taekwondo Federation's general ranking for the under-53 kg weight category.
The SOPC continues its commitment to supporting athletes in the Kingdom by providing a comprehensive sports environment that enables them to achieve global achievements and raise the flag of Saudi Arabia in major international events.
