During a recent session at the United Nations Security Council, India vehemently condemned Pakistan, dismissing Islamabad's claims regarding Operation Sindoor as inaccurate, and criticized its use of terrorism as a government strategy. India's Permanent Representative, Parvathaneni Harish, challenged the Pakistan envoy for presenting a distorted interpretation of events dating back to May of the previous year.

Harish spotlighted the brutal killing of 26 innocent civilians in Pahalagam by terrorists supported by Pakistan in April 2025. He reminded the council that it had previously called for accountability for the planners and sponsors of this tragic incident. India’s approach, he noted, was deliberate, cautious, and aimed at dismantling the terrorist bases without inflaming tensions.

He disclosed that Pakistan continued to issue threats towards India up until May 9, but on May 10, reached out directly to the Indian military to request a cessation of hostilities. Harish countered Pakistan’s claims of military success, citing existing evidence of damages to various Pakistani air bases during India’s operations, which included ruined runways and charred hangars.

On the topic of terrorism, Harish strongly criticized Pakistan’s attempts to normalize such violence, declaring, “Terrorism cannot be accepted as the new norm.” He accused Pakistan, a member of the UN Security Council, of pursuing a biased and harmful agenda against India and its citizens.

Harish reiterated India’s unwavering position on Jammu and Kashmir, affirming that this Union territory is a vital part of India and denouncing any intrusion by Pakistan into India’s domestic affairs.

Addressing the Indus Waters Treaty, Harish articulated India’s decision to suspend the agreement, indicating that despite signing it in good faith 65 years ago, Pakistan’s consistent breaches of the treaty’s intent through wartime actions and terrorism prompted this stance. The continuation of the treaty’s enforcement, he emphasized, hinges on Pakistan’s commitment to ending its cross-border terrorism indefinitely.

Harish concluded by urging Pakistan to respect the rule of law, highlighting its internal constitutional challenges, including the controversial 27th Amendment, which grants permanent immunity to its military chief.

India’s assertive declarations at the UN Security Council reaffirm its dedication to countering terrorism and protecting national sovereignty while firmly rejecting Pakistan’s efforts to misrepresent facts and meddle in India’s domestic issues.
