In Indonesia, A Woman Falls Out of the Gym Window After Stumbling Off the Treadmill

In a tragic incident in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, a young woman lost her life after a horrifying accident at a local gym. The 22-year-old, whose identity remains undisclosed, stumbled and fell out of a third-floor window after tripping on a treadmill. The incident, which occurred around 1 pm on June 18, was captured in a video that circulated online. The footage shows her running on the treadmill, stopping briefly to wipe her face with a towel, and then losing her balance, falling backwards through an open window just 60 cm away.

Despite her desperate attempt to grasp the window frame, she tragically plummeted three stories, sustaining severe head injuries. Rushed to the hospital, she was unable to survive her injuries. An autopsy later confirmed extensive bruising and lacerations to her head.

Reports indicate that the victim had accompanied her boyfriend to the gym, where he was exercising on the second floor at the time of the accident. Authorities investigating the incident noted the dangerous proximity of the treadmill to the open window, highlighting safety concerns. They found that warning stickers advising against opening windows were damaged, and despite the gym owner's intention to maintain an unobstructed view by positioning treadmills with their backs to the windows, safety protocols were compromised.

Following the tragedy, the gym was temporarily closed for three days, pending further investigation into possible negligence. Authorities are scrutinizing the gym's operating practices and safety protocols, including the adequacy of warning measures and supervision by gym staff. This incident has sparked community outcry and calls for stricter safety standards in gyms to prevent similar accidents in the future.
