Hackers Hit Aussie Pension Funds, 20K Accounts Affected

Post by: Pratik Kumar

In Australia, hackers have sneaked into people’s pension money accounts. These are the accounts where people save money for when they grow old. The bad people on the internet took money from some of these accounts and broke into more than 20,000 accounts.

The person in charge of keeping the country safe online said she knows about the attacks. She said the government is working with other offices and companies to stop the trouble. Right now, they don’t know how many people lost money or how many accounts were broken into.

One of the biggest pension groups said that 600 people had their secret codes (passwords) stolen. The hackers used those codes to enter accounts and steal money. The company quickly closed those accounts and told the people. Four people together lost around A$500,000. This money was sent to wrong places by the hackers.

Another large pension group said they saw strange activity in some accounts. So they locked those accounts to be safe. No money was taken, but they are still checking everything.

A different group said that about 20,000 accounts were touched by the hackers during the last weekend of March 2025. They closed their online page for members and started checking and fixing everything fast.

Another money group said someone tried to enter their accounts too, but no money was lost. They are still looking into it. One more pension company said they were also attacked, but no one lost any savings so far.

The Prime Minister said he has been told about this problem. He said the government will think carefully and take steps soon. He also said such attacks are very common in the country — one happens every six minutes.

A few other big groups like health and phone companies in the country were also attacked before. Last year, the government said it will spend A$587 million over 7 years to make sure people, companies, and offices are safer from such attacks.
