Shawn Jordan, a former New York police officer, has been sentenced to ten weekends in jail for raping a 13-year-old girl in the summer of 2022. The sentencing is the result of a plea deal reached with the Ontario County District Attorney's Office, which faced a difficult decision between accepting Jordan's guilty plea or risking the potential consequences of a trial involving the victim's testimony.
Jordan, 40, admitted to the assault in March this year, marking at least one of two sexual offenses he is alleged to have committed. The Ontario County District Attorney's Office expressed dissatisfaction with the sentence but hoped it would prevent similar cases in the future.
Kathryn Robb, national director of the Children’s Justice Campaign at the Enough Abuse organization, criticized the sentence as an "epitome of injustice." She argued that the light sentence sends a troubling message to child predators, suggesting leniency for such crimes.

Kelly Wolford, assistant district attorney of Ontario County, described the case as a "tragedy," emphasizing the betrayal of trust involved. "This was a child who trusted somebody, and he was an adult who knew better," Wolford said.
In addition to the Ontario County case, Jordan faces charges in Monroe County for allegedly exposing himself to a 16-year-old girl over a video call in 2023. He was reportedly caught on camera touching himself while wearing his police uniform, leading to his suspension from the Rochester Police Department.
The Ontario County District Attorney's Office clarified that Jordan's guilty plea in the rape case does not resolve the charges in Monroe County. As part of his plea deal, Jordan has been sentenced to ten years of probation, required to register as a sex offender, and ordered to pay fines.
