Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened a new bridge to improve traffic movement from Infinity Bridge through Al Mina Street to the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street. The newly completed bridge is part of Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. It stretches 1,210 meters and has three lanes, allowing up to 4,800 vehicles to pass through every hour.
Part of a Larger Project
The opening of this bridge is just one part of a much larger effort to upgrade the road network in Dubai. Phase 4 of the project covers 4.8 km along Sheikh Rashid Road, from crossing Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to the Falcon Intersection on Al Mina Street. It includes the construction of five bridges with a total length of 3.1 km. When completed, these bridges will be able to handle 19,400 vehicles per hour, helping reduce traffic congestion significantly.

In addition to the bridges, the project also includes improving surface intersections along key streets such as Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Street. Two new pedestrian bridges—one on Sheikh Rashid Road and the other on Al Mina Street—are also being built to make it safer and easier for people to cross.
Boosting Connectivity Across Dubai
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said that the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is being carried out as per the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. The project is also being closely followed by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
Al Tayer explained that the new bridge will ease traffic flow and make it easier to travel from Infinity Bridge through Al Mina Street to Sheikh Rashid Road, extending to the intersection with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street. The improved road network will benefit several residential and commercial areas, including Al Hudaiba, Al Raffa, Al Jafiliya, Al Mankhool, Al Kifaf, and Al Karama.
Progress and Future Plans
According to Al Tayer, RTA has already completed 90% of Phase 4 of the project. The remaining two bridges are expected to be finished and opened in the second quarter of this year.
The first of the two upcoming bridges will be 780 meters long, with three lanes and a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. This bridge will make it easier to drive from Infinity Bridge through Al Mina Street towards Al Wasl Street.
The second bridge will be 985 meters long and have two lanes, allowing 3,200 vehicles per hour. It will help vehicles move smoothly from Jumeirah Street towards Al Mina Street and Falcon Intersection.
Earlier Improvements
RTA has already made significant progress in the corridor’s development. In December, they opened a 1,335-metre bridge with three lanes, capable of handling 4,800 vehicles per hour. This bridge makes it easier to travel from Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street towards Al Mina Street and Falcon Intersection, extending to Infinity Bridge. The new route has greatly improved traffic flow from Sheikh Rashid Road towards Deira.
Earlier in the year, RTA also opened a 605-metre bridge with two lanes, allowing 3,200 vehicles per hour. This bridge helps vehicles move from Al Mina Street to Sheikh Rashid Road and further towards Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street.
One of Dubai’s Largest Road Projects
The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Dubai. Spanning 13 km, it covers Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street. It also includes the development of 15 intersections.
Due to its size and complexity, the project has been divided into five phases. Once completed, it will significantly enhance traffic flow between Deira and Bur Dubai. It will also support major developments, such as Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.
The entire project will benefit around one million residents by reducing travel time along the corridor. For example, the current travel time of 104 minutes will be cut down to just 16 minutes by 2030.
Additionally, the project is designed to improve road safety and is expected to generate AED 45 billion in economic benefits over the next 20 years.
