Dubai Private Schools Excel Globally in Imparting Financial Literacy

Dubai's private schools have achieved impressive global standings in both financial literacy and creative thinking skills, according to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 conducted by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In this assessment, Dubai ranked second worldwide for financial literacy and sixth for creative thinking among participating countries and regions.

PISA, held every three years, evaluates the practical application of real-life skills among 15-year-old students in reading, mathematics, and science. The inclusion of financial literacy and creative thinking domains in Dubai's participation for the first time in 2022 highlights the city's commitment to assessing comprehensive educational outcomes.

Financial literacy in PISA measures students' understanding of financial concepts, their ability to manage money effectively, and their confidence in making sound financial decisions. Dubai private schools scored 522 points in financial literacy, surpassing the OECD global average of 498 points. Notably, 82% of participating students demonstrated proficiency in financial management, with 79% setting savings goals for personal expenditures.

Creative thinking, another pivotal domain in PISA, evaluates students' capacity to generate and enhance innovative ideas that contribute to knowledge advancement and effective problem-solving. Dubai achieved a score of 36 points in creative thinking, exceeding the OECD average of 33 points. A significant 84% of students performed at or above the OECD baseline level for creative thinking skills, showcasing their confidence in generating original ideas, particularly for academic projects.

Her Excellency Aisha Miran, Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, emphasized Dubai's status as a leading educational hub, lauding the schools, educators, and students for their exceptional performance. She highlighted the alignment of these achievements with Dubai's educational vision and societal development goals, emphasizing the city's dedication to equipping students with future-ready skills.

Fatma Belrehif, CEO of the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau, underscored the study's role in informing educational policies and practices to enhance student capabilities across various disciplines. The results underscored that schools excelling in creative thinking also demonstrated strong performances in mathematics, reading, and science, emphasizing holistic skill development.

The PISA 2022 results further positioned Dubai private schools globally, with impressive rankings in mathematics, reading, and science disciplines. These outcomes reflect Dubai's commitment to educational excellence and its proactive approach to preparing students for success in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
