The fifth round of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship is set to take place on 16-17 August 2025 at the Al Nasr Club in Dubai. This year’s edition is dedicated entirely to No Gi competitions, which are a special type of jiu-jitsu match where athletes do not wear the traditional Gi uniform.

Nearly 1,000 male athletes from clubs and academies across the United Arab Emirates are expected to participate, making this one of the largest and most exciting events in the country’s sports calendar.

The championship is organized by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and continues to grow in popularity, attracting both elite athletes and young talents who aim to improve their skills in a professional and competitive environment.

What Are No Gi Competitions?

Unlike traditional jiu-jitsu, where athletes wear the Gi (a special uniform), No Gi competitions focus on speed, agility, and tactical skill. Competitors wear shorts and rash guards, which allows for faster movements and a different style of fighting.

This type of match challenges athletes to use innovative techniques, improve their physical fitness, and develop new strategies. It also makes the matches faster and more exciting for spectators, adding a dynamic and entertaining element to the championship.

Championship Schedule

The fifth round of the championship is carefully planned to accommodate all age groups.

  • Day 1 (16 August 2025): Matches for younger athletes will take place, including:

    • Under-12 category

    • Under-14 category

    • Under-16 category

  • Day 2 (17 August 2025): Older athletes and experienced competitors will compete, including:

    • Under-18 category

    • Adult category

    • Master division (for more experienced athletes)

This schedule ensures that every participant has the chance to compete in a fair and organized manner, while spectators can enjoy continuous action across both days.

Focus on Talent Development

His Excellency Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, highlighted the importance of this championship in developing future champions. He explained that the event is designed to be more than just a competition.

“It serves as a leading model for talent development,” His Excellency said. “Through these competitions, young athletes learn new skills, build confidence, and grow mentally and physically.”

The championship is also a place where promising talents can shine. By competing against skilled opponents, athletes gain experience and improve their performance, helping to raise the level of jiu-jitsu in the UAE.

The Importance of No Gi Competitions

No Gi competitions bring a unique challenge to athletes. They require:

  • Quick thinking and tactical decisions

  • High levels of physical fitness

  • Speed and agility

His Excellency Al Dhaheri noted that these matches encourage athletes to be creative and adaptive, testing their abilities in ways that traditional Gi competitions may not.

For spectators, this makes the championship more exciting. Matches move faster, the action is continuous, and every round brings new surprises. The No Gi category adds variety and excitement, making the championship enjoyable for both participants and fans.

Building Strong Generations

The Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship is more than just a sports event. According to His Excellency, it plays a key role in nurturing strong generations, both mentally and physically.

“Since its inception, the championship has contributed to building mentally strong and physically fit athletes,” he said. “It has been a significant step in developing jiu-jitsu in the UAE and raising it to new heights of excellence.”

The championship teaches important life skills such as:

  • Commitment – athletes learn to train hard and stay dedicated to their goals

  • Discipline – following rules and improving skills requires discipline

  • Teamwork – even in individual sports, athletes benefit from teamwork and support from coaches and peers

A Platform for Community Engagement

One of the most special aspects of the championship is its ability to bring the community together. Families, friends, and fans of jiu-jitsu attend the event, creating a lively and interactive environment.

The championship attracts all segments of society, from young athletes taking their first steps in the sport to experienced competitors aiming for excellence. This helps strengthen community bonds and promotes the core values of jiu-jitsu.

Sports also play an important role in a healthy lifestyle. By encouraging young people to participate, the championship supports a culture of fitness, wellness, and positive habits.

A Professional Environment for Athletes

The championship provides a professional environment that is carefully organized. Matches are held with clear rules, safety measures, and trained referees, ensuring fair competition.

Athletes benefit from:

  • Exposure to high-level matches

  • Learning from experienced opponents

  • Understanding how to perform under pressure

This prepares them not just for future championships, but also for personal growth and developing resilience in everyday life.

Why the Championship Matters

The Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship is one of the most important events for sports in the UAE because it:

  • Promotes the growth of jiu-jitsu nationally

  • Develops young talent into future champions

  • Encourages fitness, discipline, and healthy living

  • Brings communities together to celebrate sports

It has become a symbol of excellence and opportunity, showing how a well-organized sports event can influence the lives of thousands of young athletes.

The fifth round of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship promises to be an exciting and inspiring event. With nearly 1,000 athletes participating, dynamic No Gi competitions, and strong community engagement, it continues to strengthen the sport’s presence in the UAE.

For spectators, it is a chance to watch skilled athletes perform, learn new techniques, and see the future champions of jiu-jitsu in action. For the athletes, it is a platform to challenge themselves, improve their abilities, and grow both physically and mentally.

The championship demonstrates that jiu-jitsu is not just a sport but also a way to build character, inspire discipline, and foster a healthy and active lifestyle.

Dubai will come alive on 16-17 August 2025, as the country celebrates the spirit of competition, talent development, and community togetherness through this prestigious jiu-jitsu championship.
