As part of the Ramadan In Dubai campaign and in line with the ‘Year of the Community’ initiative, the Dubai Autism Center has introduced a new program to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) participate in social and public events. The initiative includes the distribution of special autism-friendly kits, designed to support the inclusion and empowerment of children with autism, particularly during Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr.

Mohammed Al Emadi, Director General of the Dubai Autism Center, explained that this initiative reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to build a strong and supportive society. He emphasized that the Center is committed to helping families and giving children with autism more opportunities to engage in social and recreational activities. Many parents find it difficult to take their children with autism to public places due to sensory challenges. With these autism-friendly kits, the Dubai Autism Center aims to make these experiences easier and more enjoyable for both children and their families.

Al Emadi also highlighted that supporting children with autism is a shared responsibility that involves everyone in society. He stated that the initiative aligns with the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination and Dubai’s ‘My Community … A City for Everyone’ initiative, which aims to make Dubai a more inclusive city for people with disabilities.

Razan Qandil, Community Outreach Coordinator at the Dubai Autism Center, described the kit as a valuable tool that helps children manage sensory challenges in different environments. She explained, “This kit is not just a set of tools; it is designed to help children with autism gain more independence. It also gives their families the confidence to take them to social events without worrying about sensory triggers. Ramadan and Eid are times of increased activities and family gatherings, and this initiative will support children in feeling more comfortable during these occasions.”

These autism-friendly kits will be available at public places and organizations that have been certified as Autism-Friendly. Some of the locations include Dubai Police stations in Al Barsha and Al Muraqqabat, Dubai Airports, Dubai Frame, Children's City, Quranic Park, Etihad Museum, Al Shindagha Museum, Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, Hatta Heritage Village, and several libraries managed by the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority. Other organizations involved in this initiative include Dubai Ambulance Corporation and the Endowment and Minors' Trust Foundation - Awqaf Dubai.

Parents who want to receive the autism-friendly kit can apply through the official communication channels of the Dubai Autism Center. The Center remains dedicated to launching initiatives that improve the lives of children with autism and support their integration into society.

The Autism-Friendly Certification Program (AFCP), introduced by the Dubai Autism Center in September 2022, aims to recognize organizations that set high accessibility standards for people with autism. This program encourages businesses and public institutions to create more inclusive environments.

The Dubai Autism Center (DAC) is a non-profit organization established in 2001. It provides specialized services for children with autism and their families under Decree No. 26 of 2021 issued by the Ruler of Dubai. The Center offers educational, psychological, and rehabilitation programs for children with autism. It relies on financial support from subsidies, donations, and charitable endowments to continue its work.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is one of the most common developmental disorders, usually appearing within the first three years of a child's life. It affects communication and social skills, often leading to isolation from others. According to a 2021 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in 36 children has autism. This rate is consistent in many countries worldwide.

The Dubai Autism Center remains committed to raising awareness, offering support, and ensuring that children with autism and their families have access to the resources they need to thrive in society.
