Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — 19 February 2026:
The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) has launched a global campaign titled “Stop Online Misinformation: Ctrl+Alt+Delete”, aimed at countering online misinformation and strengthening public trust in the digital economy.
The initiative calls for coordinated action by governments, media institutions, digital platforms, and the private sector to address misinformation, which DCO described as an increasing challenge affecting economic stability, social cohesion, and confidence in digital services.
According to DCO, the campaign marks the outcome of a year of sustained multilateral and multistakeholder engagement led by the organization to address misinformation as a growing cross-border issue. The campaign is being implemented under DCO’s Online Content Integrity initiative, and will roll out in phases through stakeholder commitments, policy discussions, public engagement activities, and digital outreach.
Launch during DCO’s 5th General Assembly
The campaign was launched on the sidelines of the 5th General Assembly of the Digital Cooperation Organization, held in Kuwait. The launch was accompanied by a high-level ministerial panel focused on combating online misinformation, bringing together senior government officials from several member states.
The panel included ministers from the Ministerial Committee on Online Misinformation, chaired by the State of Kuwait, as well as:
H.E. Ms. Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform of Morocco
H.E. Eng. Sami Issa Smeirat, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship of Jordan
H.E. Ms. Shiza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications of Pakistan
DCO said the discussion reflected a growing cross-cultural consensus among member states on the need for coordinated international action to counter misinformation and strengthen trust in digital environments.
Focus on trust, resilience, and economic impact
DCO Secretary-General Ms. Deemah AlYahya highlighted the increasing speed and scale at which misinformation spreads online, describing it as a challenge that undermines trust and creates societal and economic risks.
“Online misinformation has evolved into a digital pandemic, spreading faster than facts, eroding public trust, and undermining the foundations of the digital economy,” she said.
She added that if left unaddressed, misinformation can weaken institutions, increase polarization, and impose real costs on societies. AlYahya emphasized that addressing the issue requires collective responsibility and coordinated action across multiple stakeholders, including governments, media organizations, technology platforms, and the private sector.
She also noted that trust plays a central role in the growth and sustainability of the digital economy, stressing that safeguarding online content integrity is essential not only for countering falsehoods but also for supporting openness, resilience, and inclusive prosperity.
Part of DCO’s broader digital cooperation mission
DCO stated that the campaign aligns with its wider mission of advancing digital cooperation that supports economic growth, improves quality of life, and strengthens trust and resilience in digital ecosystems.
The organization said the campaign will progress through structured stakeholder pledges and commitments, supported by policy dialogue and public awareness efforts, with the aim of encouraging stronger collaboration across borders and sectors.
