Cryer scores 22 as No. 3 Houston beats Kansas 65-59 for 9th win

L.J. Cryer played a big role in Houston’s win against Kansas, scoring 22 points. With this 65-59 victory on Monday night, No. 3 Houston won its ninth game in a row.

Emanuel Sharp helped from the bench, scoring 12 points. He made two free throws in the last 20 seconds, giving Houston a 63-59 lead. The Cougars (26-4, 18-1 Big 12) were perfect in the final moments, making all four of their free throws to secure the win.

Cryer was on fire in the first half, scoring 18 points and making seven out of 13 shots. His strong play helped Houston take a small 30-27 lead at halftime.

Milos Uzan added 10 points for Houston. Mylik Wilson also had a good game with 10 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Houston did not shoot very well, making only 35% of its shots. They made seven three-pointers out of 20 attempts.

Kansas fought hard, with Hunter Dickinson leading the team. He scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. KJ Adams Jr. added 15 points, while David Coit came off the bench to score 14. The Jayhawks (19-11, 10-9) shot better than Houston, making 45% of their shots, but they had trouble keeping the ball, leading to many turnovers.

Kansas has won three games and lost three against top-10 teams this season. Their record against Top 25 teams is now four wins and three losses.

Houston has been one of the best teams this season, winning 22 of its last 23 games. This win helps their chances of getting a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They now have eight wins and four losses in Quad 1 games, which are the most important matchups for rankings.

A big moment in the game happened after Sharp made his free throws. Kansas guard Dajuan Harris Jr. slipped while trying to catch an inbounds pass. Cryer stole the ball, got fouled, and made two more free throws to seal the win.

Houston’s defense was a big reason for the victory. They forced Kansas into 20 turnovers and turned them into 18 points.

Houston will finish the regular season on Saturday when they play Baylor. Kansas will try to bounce back when they host No. 24 Arizona on the same day.
